Oscar Dresses- S/S 2013 trends

I've been more interested in the Oscars this year than I have ever been before! It wasn't even just the celebrities that lured me into staying up to watch E!News' live stream from the red carpet, it was what they were wearing.

There's so many pieces on who was best dressed, who wore what and what the major trend is, but no-one has seemed to focus on every S/S13 trend and how they were each captured at the oscars. Let's start with monochrome.

Monochrome seemed to be a huge hit with the A-listers this year, everyone from Charlize Theron to Bradley Cooper's mother were rocking the black and white trend. And with the Red Carpet as a backdrop, nothing could have been more spot-on.

Charlize Theron with her new beautiful cropped hair and stunning white dress.

Kristen Stewart with THAT face... Her hair just about makes up for it though.

Adele looking gorgeous in a floor length black Jenny Packham gown.
Secondly, it was difficult to ignore the amount of sparkles and metallics present on the red carpet this year, as if the expensive bling wasn't enough. Especially with E!'s mini manicure red carpet where the stars could show off their nails as well as their jewellery.

Jennifer Hudson really impressed me, her figure, dress and make-up were all absolutely perfect.

The metallic dresses also seemed to be the sexiest on the red carpet, with a few celebrities opting for skin tight or backless dresses.
Cut-out metallic dresses were popular this year, and with not one wardrobe mishap.
Lastly, a dark blue nautical theme was hugely prominent in the oscar dresses this year.

Reese Witherspoon's dress and hair were huge talking points.

9 years old and at the Oscars! Complete with puppy handbag, of course.

Helen Hunt went for an H&M dress!! She still looks glamorous and elegant.

The celebrities did really well this year in choosing dresses that fit the Oscars so, so well. The colours chosen were all elegant and classy; their stylists need a pat on the back!

Now I've seen this year's show, I'm more excited about next year's!

Beyonce World Tour!!

Beyonce has just announced she will be embarking on a World Tour! Appropriately named: The Mrs Carter Show.
I cannot even begin to describe how excited I (and undoubtedly the rest of the world too) am about this fact.
I've loved Beyonce since I was old enough to appreciate the beauty of what she does and the grace and class she does it with. Not to mention her work ethic! She literally doesn't stop, it's one album after the other, only separated by sell-out world tours. She obviously loves her fans, and you just know she's thankful for everything she has in terms of talent, family and success. I'd say I know a few people with a heart as good as hers, but the fact she has managed to stay an idol with all these years in the public eye is more than impressive, it's seriously admirable.

Beyonce has a husband and a beautiful baby daughter and yet manages to entertain the world. As she says in 'Run the World': "We're smart enough to make these millions, strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business..."

World Tour Poster- Released at Midnight Last Night

Also, how could I do a blog post on Beyonce without mentioning her incredible Super Bowl performance last night? I didn't quite make it to 2:15am UK time to watch it as it happened, but I did watch it earlier through her official page. Am I the only one who nearly died when Michelle and Kelly popped up on stage? I don't think I was. I'm pretty sure we've all been waiting for Destiny's Child to sing together again for a long time.
Because there was so much hype about her performance I was slightly worried that it wouldn't live up to everyone's expectations, obviously I was wrong. Damn was she incredible. And after everyone slating her for supposedly lip syncing at the inauguration, I don't think I was the only one proved wrong here.

I can't see her giving up on being incredible any time soon, so this blog post stands for my view in 10 years time...

Celebrity Ink

I've been seeing a lot of celebrities posting pictures of their tattoos on twitter/Instagram recently, and there's so many opinions forming in my head I thought I'd share them with you guys. Firstly: Rihanna.

Out of all the major celebs nowadays I'm pretty sure Rihanna must have the most tattoos. I think she's on 17 now but I'm not sure. All of her old ones (including the famous stars on the back of her neck) were completely blown up in the media, and now they're just part of her. I feel like that's what's happening with her most recent tattoo of the Goddess 'Isis', which I personally think is beautiful. I think if it didn't mean anything it would be a little strange, but her caption on Instagram explicitly dedicated it to her Grandmother, (or Grangrandolly...) who recently passed away.

What really struck me though, was Chris Brown's way too similar tattoo that he got after Rihanna's, of a fighter jet. The Goddess Isis is supposedly the Mother of the Egyptian God of war. Also, it's aesthetically similar, not to mention placement.

Weirdly, a tattoo belonging to Lady Gaga is slightly linked to this pair's art, as the singer recently had an angel inked on the back of her newly shaven head. At a live concert. In front of an audience. My first thought was: "What the hell was she thinking?" and then I remembered that Lady Gaga doesn't really think, she does does. Which is admirable, I guess. I'm sure she'll come up with some weird and wonderful way to display this new tattoo. I'm sure her hat collection is as big as my uni room. Then again, that's not really saying much.

Gaga with shaven head and angel tattoo. Not too sure on this one...
I really just had to add this next one in because of its weird factor. Jackson Rathbone (who played Jasper in the Twilight saga) has had a huge tattoo of a ketchup bottle etched into his lower leg. His reasoning? He just really loves ketchup. Wow.

That's some real love of ketchup right there...
And last but not (?) least... Justin Bieber. Of course. The multi-million dollar teen who has a fan base so big it's hard to avoid hearing about him at least once a week. However hard we try. It seems as though as soon as one piece of Bieber news passes, he does something else that gets him thrown into the limelight. For example, his new tattoo of the Stratford Cullitons' hockey team logo on his left shoulder blade. Claiming his grandfather used to take him to their games all the time when he was little, at least he has the excuse of independent meaning...

I guess if I'm slating and rating the tattoos of others I should probably finish up by posting about my one and only tattoo: My birdies. My explanation for getting birds probably sounds a bit feeble, but they actually mean a lot to me. Firstly, they represent everything that I stand for: Freedom, growth, peace and femininity. I chose to have 3 because of my 3 family members, which is something that will never change, they will always stay in my heart.

My beautiful birds.

First Semester at Uni

I literally can't even begin to describe how strange my first semester at uni has been. Freshers was crazy, I'm not even sure where that week went. My flat mates are amazing, most of them anyway.

I think I should probably start with the stereotypical aspects of student life so far:
Our kitchen is an absolute mess, there hasn't been a week pass by that hasn't included copious amounts of alcohol, I think I started my first assignment when I woke up 2 hours before the deadline at 8pm, and on the day of my first lecture I'd had one hour's sleep and too much Red Bull.

The biggest cocktail ever- the megapint cocktail at Solent SU bar...

It's safe to say that a lot of what people think students do, we actually do. But when the end of term came around there was a lot more rocking up to lectures in your trackies and staying in the library until stupid times at night.

I think you just have to accept that however much reading you do for your first piece of work (I liked to call it MEGA-ESSAY), nothing will sink in until you've had more than 5 hours sleep.

Obviously, doing a journalism course meant that a lot of writing was involved and a lot of deadlines had to be met. We thought doing 2 news stories a week along with our other assignments was bad, we were warned that it would only get more difficult from here on out.

Aside from the workload that made the whole course want to cry, my nights were heavily dependant on my array of onesies, many cups of tea and Sex and the City, (1 and 2).

As I slowly turned into more of a hermit, turning to my bed instead of Oceana, I think the rest of our year started to grow more and more rebellious.

I don't think I can count the amount of times I've come home to ambulances, police cars and fire engines parked outside our halls. Not to mention the night we had the Solent rugby team pre-drinking in our kitchen, which led to absolute carnage...

The lovely state of our kitchen at 9pm on a Wednesday

That's probably all the summarising I can do for now, I think I'll just explain the rest with some lovely pictures...
